1 A rigorous transformation

All frames start out the same--an old weathered board from a barn or fence that was no longer wanted. This is where we start making the old new.

So much beautiful wood has been left to rot or been burned, but we save what we can. Each piece of wood is uniquely different. Years of wind, rain, snow and sunshine bring out the grain and texture in a natural process that cannot be duplicated by man

After the wood is brought to Merle's, the work begins. There are nails to pull, hinges to take off, screws to remove. Then we begin the sorting and discarding of any rotten wood. After the wood has been carefully cleaned of any hardware, it is kept dry and becomes stock for frames.
