The first step is the selection. Choosing from our controlled stock our artists select wood that closely resembles one another in grain, tone and feelling. From this careful selection, the frame begins to have an identity all its own.
After selecting the proper wood pieces, the wood is taken in to be processed, sorted and prepped for stripping. Each frame base must be matched, not only to each other, but they must also meet size and specific requirements to make a sturdy frame that will resist splitting and warping. Once in the barn, the wood is sized to fit our pre-cut dies in each configuration of the frames we make. This process ensures that each frame will fit together evenly and without gaps or holes. Also, at this stage we check each wood bar for knotholes and other undesirable traits that might have shown up.
